Services

Our services are available to any West Midlands, post-16 LSC funded learning provider in Further Education (including 6th Form and Specialist Colleges), Adult and Community Learning, Work-based Learning and FE in Higher Education. We can provide a variety of services tailored to suit your organisation.

Advice

A member of staff will be available to take your call between 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday. Your query will be directed to the most appropriate e-learning adviser depending on the nature of your query. Here are just some of the many topics we can advise on:

Technical (network and infrastructure)
Organisational e-learning strategies
Accessibility issues specific to e-learning
Technologies and resources for teaching and learning
JISC support services and resources

We can also arrange visits to your organisation where possible, for informal staff development and e-learning advice.

Training and Staff Development

RSC West Midlands runs training and events throughout the year on a host of topics relating to e-learning. Many events take place in the RSC training suite, at the Wolverhampton Science Park, which has 12 PCs and one tutor PC, an interactive whiteboard and space for up to 4 laptops.

Bespoke training on your premises
Brokered training – the RSC works closely with external trainers to provide discounted training in software such as Microsoft and Adobe products
Forums – regular face to face discussion opportunities for technical, specialist college, learning resources and adult and community learning staff
Annual online e-learning event - typically hosted over 3 days, includes sessions from our e-learning advisers, learning providers and stakeholders such as JISC services
Online courses using the RSC WM Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle

Strategic support

This includes:

Information and Learning Technology (ILT) Health Check – an independent assessment of e-learning within your organisation. This confidential service highlights strengths, areas for development and recommendations
Technical assistance – i.e. assessing your college’s LAN, managing JANET UK accounts and using technologies to implement e-learning across the post-16 sector. Find out more about the technical assistance we can provide here

JISC services

The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) supports a host of services to promote innovative use of ICT in the HE and FE education sectors. In addition, they provide the UK JANET network, access to electronic resources, and advisory and consultancy services. You can find out more about the services here

JANET UK

This is the network which connects the UK’s education and research organisations to each other, and the rest of the world through links to the global internet. It also provides a separate network specifically for network development.
